Description: and Purpose: Idaho Code 42-233 a and b "A Critical Ground Management Area
(CGMA) is all or part of a ground water basin that does not have sufficient
ground water to provide a reasonably safe supply for irrigation or other uses
at the current or projected rates of withdrawal. The Director of IDWR can deny
an application for a proposed use if the point of diversion lies within the
designated area and may require water users to report diversions or other
information. A Ground Water Management Area (GWMA) is all or part of a ground
water basin that may be approaching the conditions of a CGMA. Applications for
new water appropriations may be approved only after it is determined that
sufficient supply is available and other prior water rights will not be
injured. The Director may require reporting of water use by water users within
the area." Idaho Department of Water Resources Open-File Report Ground Water

Prepared for the City of Meridian by Hydro Logic Inc. (9-12-2015 Meridian Request for West Ada Area of Drilling Concern Designation - FINAL.pdf)"In order to protect its residents and the ground water resource on which it depends, the City of Meridian requests that an Area of Drilling Concern be designated by the Director of the Idaho Department of Water Resources. Ground water is the primary source of potable water for the residents in the Treasure Valley, and the only available potable source for the City of Meridian. The protection of this valuable resource is critical to the economic, physical, and social well being for all residents. This request explains how ground water is threatened by current drilling and well construction practices and how an Area of Drilling Concern will mitigate the threats."
